Our History

Hydro Drilling International was founded in 1976 and in 1978 began its drilling activity in Libya for water wells.

The development of Hydro Drilling International’s activities in the Oil & Gas began in 1981 with R6 rig.

Only a year later an IDECO H30 rig is acquired and in 1984 the fleet of Hydro Drilling International is further enriched with a MR7000 rig.

Furthermore, in the ‘80s, Hydro Drilling International carried out its first drilling activity for IOC (AGIP) and acquired two more rigs: an IDECO H40 and a MR4000.

In 1997 Hydro Drilling International acquired an IDECO M1200 rig and in 2000 set up a Consortium with Italfluid GeoEnergy for the management of upstream and downstream services.

In 2007, a latest-generation HH220 hydraulic rig became part of the Hydro Drilling International fleet and was named “Leonardo”; one year later a “twin” rig, called “Archimede”, was added to the company fleet.

In 2011 Hydro Drilling International started drilling operations in Algeria for ENI Algeria with HH220 “Archimede” rig and, in the same year, acquired a new 2000hp rig called “Galileo”, that in 2014 worked in Algeria for drilling activities for the company First Calgary Petroleum (FCP).

In the two-year period 2012-2014 Hydro Drilling International increased its international experience with drilling and workover activities, respectively in Germany for the company GeoEnergy GMBH with TI350 rig (not owned) and in Ukraine with MR7000 rig.

In 2014 Hydro Drilling International became Hydro Drilling S.r.l. and continued its activities in the Oil & Gas and Gas Storage for the major Customers in the sector with its MR7000, MR4000 and both HH220 rigs.

From 2013 to 2015 HH220 “Archimede” rig worked for Eni DIME in Val d’Agri (Southern Italy) and in the two-year period 2016-2018 it carried out drilling and P&A activities for Customers such as Stogit SpA, Consorgas Srl and Po Valley Energy Limited.

HH220 “Leonardo” rig worked from 2014 to 2015 for Eni Adriatica and Appennine Energy S.p.a. for workover and drilling activities and in the three-year period 2015-2018 carried out drilling and workover activities for Edison Stoccaggi and Edison S.p.a.

In 2017 MR4000 rig resumed its activity after an important refurbishment.

In 2018 HH220 “Leonardo” rig began to work for Stogit S.p.a. (SNAM Rete Gas Group S.p.a.) with a three-year contract for “Drilling services with low environmental impact hydraulic rig to be used onshore”.

In addition to the numerous onshore activities, Hydro Drilling has been running offshore workover activities for the company Eni S.p.a. DICS with FMWR Adriatic 1 rig, through a Temporary Business Association with Nabors Offshore Americas S.A.R.L.
